The Von Duprin M996L-RV is a motor-driven electrified clutched lever trim for 98/99 Series Rim and Vertical Rod exit devices. Field-selectable fail-safe (FS) or fail-secure (FSE) operation via DIP switch. 12/24VDC operation. Replaces solenoid-based electrified trim with smoother, quieter motor actuation.

Compatible Exit Devices

Compatible with: Von Duprin 98 Series, 99 Series Rim and Vertical Rod exit devices. Requires electrified hinge or power transfer to deliver power.

Function & Operation

Motor-driven electrified lever. Application of 12/24VDC retracts the latch and allows lever operation. DIP switch selects FS (unlocks on power loss) or FSE (locks on power loss). Quieter and lower current draw than solenoid-based alternatives.

Installation Notes

Requires electrified hinge or power transfer. Connect to building power supply. Set DIP switch for desired fail mode. Specify lever style and handing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does motor driven mean?

M996L uses an internal DC motor to actuate the lever clutch rather than a solenoid. Quieter operation, lower current draw, and field-selectable fail mode.

Fail-safe vs fail-secure?

FS (Fail-Safe) unlocks the lever when power is removed. FSE (Fail-Secure) keeps the lever locked when power is removed. Set via internal DIP switch.

Voltage requirements?

12VDC or 24VDC. Voltage detected automatically.

What's the difference between M996L and 996L?

996L is standard (mechanical key only). M996L is electrified — unlocks via building access control / panic exit hardware.
